Hello, I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 FX5051 USB speaker system. No matter what I do I can only get maybe 4 of the 6 speakers working, sometimes only 3. I recently acquired a high-end i7 Laptop and its audio out is really only for headphones, so I need to use USB. I thought I can use this speaker system with USB. Prior to this I, I used to have a 5.1 Audigy 5,1 Sound card in my old P4HT system. So I know all the speakers do work.
Windows 7 sees the Altec Lansing FX5051 and it is the Default Sound Device. AL's Properties/Enhancement = 'Speaker Fill' = Enable (Tried Disable All & Def w/ no affect).
Driver is Microsoft's USB Generic. Sound / Communication is set to 'Do nothing' Read a lot around the web with no clear solutions. Could use someone's help.

If you have a digital tester just select DC voltage then connect the positive leads of the digital tester to any of the wire coming out of the 18V adapter (WARNING do not connect to the wire connected to the main) and then the other lead of the digital tester which is the negative connected to the other wire of the 18V adaptor. If in the screen of the digital adapter reads a negative value, then it indicates that the other wire is the negative and the other is positive.
Otherwise if the tester reads a positive value then your tester's leads have got the right connection. Please rate me. Answered on Jan 29, 2013. Hi, The front cover is glued to the wood box. You need to be very carefull with this job as there are risks of injury. With a sturdy box cutter carefully make repeated passes with the tip of the (long) blade between the wood case and the front cover. It will only penetrate 3/16 to 1/4 in when finished.
You will feel it when you reach plastic through the glue. When you are satisfied that all the glue between the side of the box and the cover is sliced, insert a flat tip screwdriver between the power cord and the wood frame to pry the cover off. Work slowly around the buttom so the marring in the plastic does not show too much. (yes you cannot avoid it) And be carefull that it does not shut closed on your fingers.
Once you have some space opened you can use a flat blade to keep it open while you work around the other sides. A long flat tip screwdriver can be used to reach the opposite side to pry from the inside. To remove the PCB from the front cover pry off the connector cover from the side of the front cover then pry that side away from the knobs to be able to lift the board straight out. It does not come our at an angle. Good luck and be carefull with the knife. Bye Answered on Sep 04, 2012.
The issue is not with the speakers but with your sound card driver. Google search the soundcard for your system, if its a laptop it should be fairly easy by going to the manufacturers website as with a branded pc, however if you have a clone pc made by somone, you need to find out what soundcard you have, the only way of doing this is opening up the box. And looking for the soundcard as a daughter board and looking for the reference numbers or model. If you cannot see one then it is most likely embeded into your motherboard. In which case make a note of the motherboard model and go to its manufacturers website.

You might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the drivers and the sound devices click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make the necessary adjustments there or control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager, sound, could be a yellow question mark? Right click to re-install drivers or right click select properties to either troubleshoot, uninstall, rollback driver or try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems hope this helps Answered on Feb 02, 2011.
